Lei Maile

for Momentous Occasions

Each lei maile is made to order.

We hand-select and weave together bold strands of maile pakaha, delicate strands of maile laulii, fragrant strands of maile kaluhea.

We create lei made for your special occasion. Please tell us how you’ll be using the lei, where you’ll wear/display it, and when you need it.

Lei are shipped via FedEx to arrive at least 24 hours prior to your event to maximize freshness, smell, and durability.

What does Nahele-First mean?

A nahele-first approach places the wellbeing of the forest ecosystem above production goals and human needs. It means not using any synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, plastic irrigation, and not clear cutting or causing major modifications to the forest.

Our research indicates that the best maile is grown in a forest environment and under conditions that have, until recently, naturally resulted in plentiful stocks.

Our Vision

After two years of care in our nursery, maile seedlings are returned to the forest just before they transition to the moekahi stage.

Depending on an area’s unique natural resources, companion species like alaalawainui, mamaki, kolea laulii, and ohia are established.

We envision a sustainable, responsibly-managed maile source and healthy native forests for generations to come.

Our Process

Our Commitment

We transplant over 500 maile and 100 companion species plants every year. Every purchase you make, helps us increase our shared commitment to the forest.

Farm to Fragrance

Of all our senses, sMELL
is the most powerful.

We process scent using the same parts of our brains that process emotions and memories. That’s why for many of us maile is more than a pleasant fragrance, it’s a powerful memory.

We’re transported to every lei maile we’ve ever received or given—at our graduations, our weddings, Papa’s 90th birthday, the birth of our keiki, our parents’ 40th anniversary.

Relive beloved memories—anytime, anyplace—with our line of 100% natural maile products.

Maile is one of the few species to traverse all layers of the forest. As maile ascends the canopy, it twists itself around hoio kula, ohelo, kolea laulii, olapa, and ohia. In order to produce seed, it needs more sun than is available in the understory.

MAILE CONNECTS US

In return, maile slows the flow of water, thereby preventing erosion, and it emits anti-fungal and anti-bacterial compounds that protect its companions. As maile grows, it protects and binds together these otherwise disconnected parts of the forest.

If we’re lucky, we receive lei maile at several key moments in our lives. Just as maile connects the hoio kula to the ohia, it connects our milestones. One’s most cherished memories could be remembered as a single lei maile spanning a lifetime.
